WILLIMANTIC, Conn. (WTNH)-- An early morning fire left a Willimantic group home uninhabitable on Sunday morning.
Officials say a person woke to find smoke filling the bedroom around 1 AM at 26 Mansfield Avenue. The person then called 911 before getting out okay.
That one person was the only one inside at the time.
Fire fighters report finding flames in the attic and the fire caused so much damage that residents of a group home cannot return.
"At this point, there is nobody in there and it's probably uninhabitable until they make some renovations there, as quite a bit of damage to the second floor and attic area," said Captain Scott Card, Willimantic Fire Department.
The building houses offices and apartments.
