Putnam, Conn. (WTNH) - Putnam Memorial State Park is a real attraction in the state, but misspelled traffic signs have some people confused.

Along I-84, exit 5 leads drivers to the park, but new signs have the name misspelled.

The mistake has people doing a double take. How'd you'd like to spend a day at Putman memorial state Park?

One sign even says "Oops!"

One resident said, "It says Putman, instead of Putnam, pathetic really."

This misspelling is a brand new sign. It's the result of a $4 million Department of Transportation sign replacement project stretching from the New York line to the Newtown-Southbury border.

"They spent $4 million" Guess they should be a spell checker," another resident joked.

The DOT says they used a contractor called Quaker Company.

Quaker, in turn, said they used a sub contractor, and it was onsite services who made the sign slip up. The onsite person had no comment, but said that the signs would be fixed, and they'd foot the bill.
