PUTNAM, Conn. (WTNH) -- The cause of a fatal fire that took the lives of two young girls in Putnam will remain unknown, fire officials said.

Six-month-old Ava Auger and 3-year-old Alexis Auger were killed in the fire that broke out at a home on Prospect Street earlier this month.

The Fire Marshall's Office and police investigators have now agreed that due to the extent of the damage, the cause will go undetermined.

The fire is being considered accidental.
