KILLINGLY, Conn. (WTNH) -- Kids in Killingly are going to have a new place to cool off once next month rolls around.
Owen Bell Park is growing once again.
And kids are getting a front row seat or swing to view the construction of a new splash pad.
"I hope the construction comes up soon because the heat wave's coming on," said Jacob Rondeau.
"So you want to be able to cool down at the park," asked News 8's Tina Detelj.
"It's gonna be fun I hope," Rondeau said.
For those concerned about safety, News 8 found out this is a splash pad, not a splash park. So there is no standing water or pools, just a textured pad and a bunch of sprinklers.
"Well I'm thinking they might have gotten the dirt out and then after they're gonna put a pipe in, fill the dirt back in, then get all different kinds of toys," said Zoe Rondeau.
The town workers have been pretty busy. In addition to building the splash pad they also built a boundless playground and a skate park there. News 8 is told some of the money left over from building the skate park is helping fund this project.
And that knocks off about $21,000 from the $55,000 price tag.
"Is it good for area businesses too," asked Detelj.
"Yeah I think so because I think any time you have a novelty piece of equipment like that people are going to come in from out of town," said Tom Dooley, Director of Parks and Recreation.
The town is building it and people are expected to come when it opens next month.
