Woman hospitalized after allegedly falling down stairs

TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police are investigating after a woman who allegedly fell down a flight of stairs is in critical condition.

The incident occurred just before midnight Tuesday night, in the 400 block of Litchfield St.

Police received a report of an injured female who was said to have fallen down a flight of stairs within her home.

When officers responded to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital they found the 45-year-old woman being treated for severe head trauma. The woman was later taken to Hartford Hospital, where she remains in ICU in critical condition.

During initial investigation, the woman's boyfriend told police that he heard his girlfriend yell during the night, followed by a loud crash, and proceeded to find her unconscious at the bottom of the stairway.

Later Wednesday afternoon, the woman's family members came forward to police to report that there may be more information involving a criminal nature.

A search and seizure warrant was obtained for the home Wednesday evening.

State Police are assisting Torrington Police in processing the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
