New Haven (WTNH) - A team of medical professionals from Connecticut is loading up and getting ready to fly to Haiti.
The Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Hospital are sending a team of doctors and supplies to help earthquake survivors.
"I think it's going to be a big change from what we see at Yale," Dr. Peter Boone said.
"I think it's going to be organized chaos," said Don MacMillan, an emergency management coordinator.
The six-member team loaded up an ambulance with thousands of dollars of medical supplies.
"The hospital was able to put together this essential cache of essential supplies and we're packing it up and taking it to Haiti with us," MacMillan said. "We're trying to fill that need as best we can with what we have."
"There's going to be a lack of infrastructure we normally assume -- 24/7 electricity," Dr. Boone said. "I'm told the hospital we're going to has a generator. Sometimes the generator has fuel, sometimes it does not. We'll have to deal with what we get when we get there.
The group is expected to fly out of New Jersey at 9:00 a.m. for their flight to the Carribbean. They are expected to arrive in Haiti this afternoon. They are the first group several groups of doctors and volunteers who are going to Haiti to help.
