About Whole Planet Foundation:

Whole Planet Foundation, a private, nonprofit organization established by Whole Foods Market, provides grants to microfinance institutions in Latin America, Africa and Asia who in turn develop and offer microenterprise loan programs, training and other financial services to the self-employed poor.

Whole Planet Foundation is authorized to work in developing countries where Whole Foods Market sources products. We provide struggling growers with very small loans with no interest or profit to WFM but rather help them with $200 or $100 loans. This small amount of money is enough to help these people, mostly women, produce or grow their crops and establish a business. We encourage and ensure their use of organic and sustainable agricultural practices and help sustain their business by carrying their products in our stores with a social premium. This means we guarantee a certain price for their products and therefore keep their businesses alive even during difficult growing seasons.
