(WTNH) - A local high school student is helping make dreams come true for girls who cannot afford to go to prom.

Rachel Johnson, a senior at Nathan Hale-Ray High School in Moodus, is organizing a prom dress drive that will collect dresses in excellent condition for teens who are financially unable to purchase one.

"I think that prom has become so expensive over the years, so it's really important for girls to be able to get that prom dress that they've always wanted, and still be able to pay to go to prom, or get a limo or pay for their date if they can't afford it," said Johnson. She went on to say that many of her peers are having trouble finding the money to pay for prom.

The dresses go to Princess and the Prom, an organization that collects not only dresses, but prom accessories and shoes for Connecticut girls looking forward to their big night.

The Prom Dress Drive to benefit Princess and the Prom will be held on March 5 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Nathan Hale-Ray High School in Moodus.
