(WTNH) - Thanksgiving is almost here, and while much of the attention goes to the food, it really is a time to reflect and give thanks; Something author Lucinda Secrest McDowell talks about in her new book "30 Ways to Embrace Life: Wise Women Share Their Secrets."
In the book, McDowell tells people to focus on three things: focus, fun and faith.
Focus: McDowell says to decide what your priorities are on an emotional, physical, and financial level. Think about what you want to achieve by the time 2012 arrives and what it will take you to get there.
Fun: McDowell says that laughter really is the best medicine and we should make opportunities to lighten up and enjoy others. McDowell adds that you don't need to spend a lot of money to do this, just enjoy the simple times playing charades in front of the fireplace, watching a funny holiday DVD or doing a project together.
Faith: Lastly, McDowell says that the holidays are an important time to act on whatever you believe. She says that some sort of spiritual reflection is key to this season of the year when we are reviewing all that has happened in 2011 and wondering about what the new year holds.
