(WTNH) - Next Saturday, February 25th, veterans will be gathering in Wallingford for a special breakfast before heading out on what's called a "Vet Hunt."
Volunteers will be fanning out to search for homeless camps, as well as homeless veterans from the Vietnam era in Connecticut and those within New England.
Breakfast will be served at VFW Post 591 in Wallingford. Then after breakfast, all the Vet Hunt volunteers will receive a briefing on how to properly "hunt."
Volunteers will be broken into small teams with specific assigned areas to look for homeless veterans.
Around 3 p.m. everyone will return to VFW 591 to collect any data.
The Vet Hunters Project's mission is "To prevent homelessness among military veterans/non-veterans and their families by restoring self-sufficiency and self-worth through comprehensive programs that provide: permanent housing, emergency shelter, substance abuse counseling, personal support/developmental services, job assessment referral and training, educational services and life-skills training."
Following the "Vet Hunt," starting at 6 p.m., at the Courtyard Marriott in Cromwell the CT Welcome Vietnam Veterans Day and The Vet Hunters Project will host a benefit dinner to raise money for the May 19th CT Welcome Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration in Veterans Park in Shelton and also provide a portion of the proceeds to the Vet Hunters Project to help get homeless Veterans off the streets.
