On Monday June 8, a big portion of Connecticut's legal community will come together for the annual meeting of the Connecticut Bar Association at the Connecticut Convention Center. The President of the CT Bar Association Livia Barndollar joined us to talk about the event, along with Attorney Renee Berman, the author of "'The Ultimate Guide to Solo and Small Firm Success.'
Berman will present her book at the event, which will feature advice and networking opportunities for attorneys. Berman writes about the challenges of branching off and starting a small private firm. She says planning is the most important thing. But she says it can be a struggle for attorneys to balance running an office with marketing the firm and handling the caseload. Her book points attorneys towards the resources available to them.
Barndollar says those resources will also be highlighted at the annual meeting. She also says it's not uncommon for attorneys to change their focus -- for example, to decide to switch from real estate law to start handling bankruptcy cases. The meeting will feature seminars and speakers on a variety of topics designed to help lawyers keep up to date with current events. A judge and some volunteers will also be honored for their service during the daylong event.
