New Haven (WTNH) - If you and your family are planning a summer "stay-cation" or
even a getaway, it doesn't hurt to bring a book along to keep your
kids occupied.
Author and illustrator Katie Davis joined us this morning
with some great stay-cation book ideas for children.
Here are the books Katie recommended:
14 Cows for America by Carmen Agra Deedy
14 Cows for America is a picture book about the true story of
a Kenyan village deeply moved by the tragedy of 9/11 and what they
do about it.
Any Which Wall by Laurel Snyder
Any Which Wall is an old fashioned book about four kids that
find some simple magic: a wall that can send them anywhere.
The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary Pearson
After 17-year-old Jenna barely survives a car crash, she must
figure out who, or what, she is. Her dad is a bioengineer who saves
her, but at the same time turns her into a new kind of human being.
Available for preorder; book will be released on September
1st.
When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
When You Reach Me is a mystery told through notes left for
the main character, and also includes a bit of time travel.
Bones of Faerie by Janni Lee Simner
Bones of Faerie is a book about another world altogether, in
which a war between our world and a faerie world has left the
planet a ruined and perilous wilderness.
Waiting for Normal by Leslie Conor
Waiting for Normal is about the journey of a girl who now
lives in a trailer with her negligent mother, after her adored
stepfather and half sisters move upstate.
