Lifestyle Expert Mar Jennings joined us Sunday on Good Morning Connecticut to talk about home maintenance. Specifically, he focused on replacing some of the exterior wood features of the home.
Mar's advice -- use quality wood that will stand the tests of
time. He recommends spending a little more on pressure-treated
wood, which will hold up better than other woods. He particularly
likes it for wood fencing around a garden or along the property
line. And he says staining will help them maintain their appearance
for a longer period of time.
He also recommends looking into faux woods, like
cellular PVC exterior trim. He says you can
work with it as you'd work with wood for exterior trim, but it'll
last longer and won't crack, split, rot or warp like real wood.
Mar also says he likes the 'faux wood' for decking. It holds up well against the weather, doesn't crack or split and resists stains. The product can be treated like regular wood; fasteners can be applied without pre-drilling. And you can apply screws close to the edges without cracking or warping.
