New Haven (WTNH) - Dr. Eva Mor joined us this morning to talk about her new book to help guide you through making the right decisions for living better, healthier, independent and stress-free lives as you age.

Making the Golden Years Golden is all about the steps you and your family must take now to ensure that you are prepared for the future.

Here are some of Dr. Mor's tips from Making the Golden Years Golden:

  1. Write a will and update it every two to three years.
  2. Have a "Health Proxy" in place.
  3. Keep all your medical documents and lists of prescription drugs that you are taking in files, stored in one place. Make copies of all documents and let someone you trust keep a duplicate file.
  4. Make your home safe before an emergency happens.
  5. Protect yourself against scams.
  6.  Make sure you have Long Term Insurance by the age of 50-55 and increase the coverage every five years.
  7. Medicare covers only 80 percent of medical expenses. When planning your financial future, make sure to have money put aside to cover the remaining 20 percent of medical costs.
  8. Create a financial and legal plan early.
