The Reaching Home Program has been working hard in this tough economy to make more supportive housing available, with an ultimate goal of ending homelessness in Connecticut.
Later this week, these hard working people will take a break to honor one another at the 4th Annual Reaching Home Supportive Housing Celebration Dinner and 2009 Supportive Housing Awards.
Fran Martin, the Associate Director of the Corporation for Supportive Housing's (CSH) New England Program, and Emily Robinson, the director of case management services for Columbus House, Inc., were here this morning to talk about the dinner and the program.
The Reaching Home Dinner & Awards is an annual community celebration of the success of the tenants who have changed their lives, the case managers who have helped them rebuild their lives and the government and private funders, developers, service providers and advocates who have created supportive housing.
Supportive housing helps tenants rebuild their lives. The program provides permanent homes to individuals who were once homeless and cycling through emergency shelters and the vicious cycles of prisons, nursing homes, emergency rooms and drug treatment.
Connecticut is a leader in the creation of supportive housing and communities across the state have accepted supportive housing as a solution to homelessness. Over the last decade, almost 4,000 units of supportive housing have been created in more than 85 communities across the state.
The Reaching Home Supportive Housing Celebration Dinner and 2009 Supportive Housing Awards is being held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza in Cromwell.
