(WTNH) -- Due to identity theft, it's more important than ever to keep a close eye on your credit card and bank statements, but that alone isn't enough.

• Keep a regular watch on your financial statements.
• Consider canceling inactive accounts.
• If you travel, tell your credit card company.
• Use your debit for cash and carry items.
