East Haven -
There's a bee invasion in East Haven.. and the DEEP is going to check it out. Viewers have sent reportit pictures into the newsroom. They say the bees were seen swarming Tuesday near 7 Burr Street. That's right near the Saint Bernadette School and East Shore Senior Center. It's also down the street from Tweed New Haven airport.
Shawn Hopkinson, says the swarm of bees numbers at least ten thousand. He called police and they told him to call the Health Department. The Health Department said call the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP). They're meeting Wednesday to take care of the problem.
Hopkinson is the same East Haven man who won the presidential award for passing out water in the wake of Tropial Storm Irene.
"we had a few different bee keepers look at them an they all told me that those are not normal honey bees,: said Joe Hops. He says it's a very good chance try are Africanized honey bee's. Hops says he estimates another 50-100,000 bees in the tree
