CLINTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A monument located in front of the First Church of Christ Congregational marks the spot where the Collegiate School once stood. Doesn't sound familiar? You may know it as Yale University.
It was in 1701 that the pastor of the church, Reverend Abraham Pierson, served as its first rector and president. Classes were held at his home until his death in 1707. [ Link ]
The school relocated, eventually landing in New Haven.
Pierson's home was torn down in the late 1700's and the Stanton House built in its place. But remnants of the old homestead remain, including pieces used to support the Stanton's stone chimneys.
In the backyard the old well used by Pierson and his students still stands. And you too can witness it all. The Stanton House serves as a public museum with its own treasures to boast.
