GROTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- Standing as a beacon on the University of Connecticut's Groton campus stands the Avery Point Lighthouse.
The lighthouse , the last to be built in the state, was finished in 1943 when the land was deeded by the state to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The octagonal tower stands 41 feet tall and is surrounded by Italian marble balusters.
By 1967 its use as a navigational aid came to an end and the property returned to that of the state. After falling into disrepair, Jim Streeter along with his wife sparked a fund raising drive to restore the landmark .
Restoration was completed in 2006, and its green glow can still be seen via an LED light.
