HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- A beautiful archway stakes claim to Bushnell Park in Hartford.
The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch pays tribute to the city's Civil War veterans.
More than 4,000 men from Hartford served in the war. Nearly 400 of them died.
The 1886 arch depicts their bravery in two friezes; One illustrates battle scenes from the war, the other reveals the soldiers and sailors return.
And the figure of the woman in the center represents Hartford in all her glory.
