WATERBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- Gil was out on the Green in Waterbury meeting people, checking out the weather, and learning about the city's history.
A number of presidential candidates have campaigned in Waterbury because of its role in statewide elections. That was never more evident than in the early morning hours of November 6, 1960.
Senator John F. Kennedy, the man who would become President, was greeted by a crowd of 40,000 people on the Waterbury Green.
From the balcony of the Roger Smith Hotel, now called the Elton, Kennedy spoke to a sea of gatherers who stood in the cold at 3 a.m. to hear him speak.
Just two days before the decisive election, Kennedy made his appeal in what he proclaimed was the greatest rally seen in this entire campaign.
You can catch On the Green with Gil every Thursday on Good Morning Connecticut. Click here to see a full schedule.
