About Bringing 2nd Baby Home:
We all see celebrities in the media making smooth, almost
wondrous, transitions to parenthood. Is it really that simple??
Real families face real obstacles when adding a child to the
family. Based on research by Dr. John Gottman, we know that at
least two-thirds of all new parents find it a period of
decreased happiness and decreased satisfaction.
In the Bringing Baby 2 Home workshop to be held at the Women and Family Life Center in Guilford, Nina Sutton will work with participants to address their concerns about welcoming a second child into their families. Each family member must be considered. There are several issues that need to be addressed. As a certified Gottman educator, Nina will utilize some of the principles of the original Bringing Baby Home program, developed by Dr. Gottman, giving parents research-based tools and information needed to constructively address relationship changes that can be brought about by the birth of a child. The original program strives to improve the quality of life for babies and children by strengthening their families. Bringing Baby 2 Home echoes that goal while addressing parents' concerns. Nina would like to see that each participant becomes empowered toward making a conscious choice about the addition of a second child. Participant intraction plays a vital role in the workshop, therefore registration will be limited and attendance at both sessions is essential.
About Nina:
Nina Sutton has a Master's in Psychology and Education from
Teachers College, Columbia University and is a certified Gottman
Educator, trained to teach the Bringing Baby Home workshop,
developed by John Gottman of the Relationship Research Institute in
Seattle.
Gottman's Bringing Baby Home Program gives parents research-tested tools and information needed to constructively address relationship changes that are often brought about by the birth of a child. According to Gottman's research, two-thirds of all new parents find the transition to parenthood a period of decreased happiness and decreased satisfaction.
Bringing Baby 2 Home will utilize some of the principles of the original program regarding the significant changes faced when becoming parents.
In the workshop, Nina will work with participants helping them to become aware of and address possible obstacles such as increased stresses and strains, altered values and goals, role shifts, increased hostility, as well as the importance of good/effective communication.
There will be two sessions with participant interaction,
therefore registration is limited.
Participants are also strongly encouraged to plan on
attending both workshops.
In addition to working with WFLC, Nina conducts individual
consultations addressing the transition to parenthood
