NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Kyle Vinales scored 24 of his 28 points in the second half as Central Connecticut State won its first game of the season, defeating Brown 86-71 Thursday night to give coach Howie Dickenman his 250th career victory at his alma mater.

The Blue Devils (1-2), who lost to Fairfield 64-63 and to Saint Peter's 64-61, shot 62 percent from the field (31 of 50), with Vinales hitting 7 of 8 in the second half, including 4 of 5 3-pointers.

Trailing 18-16, Central Connecticut State dominated the rest of the first half to lead 45-30 at the break.

The Bears (1-1) got within four, at 67-63, on Tucker Halpern's 3-pointer, but Vinales scored all of the Blue Devils' points in a 10-3 spurt to pull away.

Matt Hunter added 17 points and six assists and Terrell Allen had 14 points for Central Connecticut State.
