Hamden (AP) - Settlement talks have been scheduled in the gender-equity lawsuit brought against Quinnipiac University by members of its volleyball team.
U.S. District Court judge Stefan Underhill on Tuesday agreed to a request from lawyers for both sides to turn the case over to a magistrate judge for mediation. A pre-settlement conference call is scheduled for June 16.
The move came after Underhill issued a temporary injunction last month preventing the university from carrying out plans to cut women's volleyball as part of budget cuts that also eliminated the men's golf and outdoor track squads.
The school subsequently reinstated the volleyball team, and announced it would cut it's men's indoor track team instead.
