Uncasville, Conn. (WTNH) - Connecticut Sun player and former UConn star Asjha Jones has always had trouble finding the right fit. So as Sports Team 8’s John Pierson shows, she made her own shoe fit.
Being tall and athletic has its drawbacks.
Asjha Jones: "Yeah, big feet."
It’s a problem many female basketball players have -- big feet mean big shoes.
"For me its always been difficult finding shoes. I'm not necessarily a fashion person, but I am a person who's looking and this is just ridiculous. Someone needs to do something about it."
That someone is Asjha Jones.
She's been wearing a women's size 13 since she was 12 years old. Now in the WNBA, Jones isn't alone trying to find something comfortable and fashionable to wear.
"We're always talking -- someone needs to do this and someone needs to make jeans and shirts long enough and someone should make shoes, and I came across a couple of people who can make it happen.”
Her shoe line, called Takihra, which is her middle name, comes out in the spring of 2011. Jones wants to make them affordable and appearance is important, too.
“Well I've been looking around to see what other people can wear. With size 13 you can't wear everything. Some sizes aren’t made for big shoes. Some things are going to look extra large and at our height, we want to be comfortable."
Jones plans on playing basketball as long as she can. This off-season she spent plenty of time thinking about her future after the WNBA, and shoes might be the start of something big.
“We're going to go from here. We're going to see how this takes off. We're not thinking to big. For the first run we're going to see how it goes and hopefully grow from there."
