Norwich (AP) - A week later than planned, the New York-Penn League is expected to announce that it is putting a team in Connecticut.

A news conference is scheduled Thursday at Dodd Stadium in Norwich. It had originally been scheduled for last Friday, but was postponed because the deal to move a franchise had not been finalized.

The Norwich Bulletin has reported that a representative of the Oneonta, N.Y., Tigers, an affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, toured Dodd Stadium earlier this month.

The New York-Penn League is a short-season league that begins play June 18. It would have 38 home games.

Dodd Stadium's last tenant, the Double-A Connecticut Defenders, moved last September to the larger market of Richmond, Va. The San Francisco Giants affiliate and its predecessor, the Norwich Navigators, had a 15-year run in eastern Connecticut.
