HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The Whitney Tech high school football team didn't win a game this year. It's never easy being a first year program but a player from the team is in the running for a pretty big award off the field.
Junior Justin Robles is trying to become a finalist for the Timex Heart of a Giant program.
The award is given to a high school football player in the tri-state area who not only does well on the field but performs off the field as well.
Robles has had his share of off the field victories.
When he was 11 he was diagnosed with a lung disease, battled thru a coma and after years in and out of the hospital, he's back on the field trying to inspire others.
Voting for this contest closes out tomorrow.
