GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — John Danks gave up one run in two-plus innings in his first outing since May as the Chicago White Sox beat the San Francisco Giants 6-2 in spring training yesterday. Dewayne Wise hit a three-run homer and Alexei Ramirez added an RBI double for the White Sox. San Francisco's Joaquin Arias homered off Danks in the second inning.

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — Carlos Carrasco pitched three innings after being hit in the side of the head by a comebacker yesterday in the Cleveland Indians' 13-5 spring win over the Chicago Cubs. Carrasco was struck in the head by Darnell McDonald's line drive. Cubs right-hander Alberto Cabrera allowed seven hits and five earned runs in two-plus innings.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — Illinois is preparing to face Big Ten rival Iowa in a battle of the conference's sixth- and eighth-place teams. Illini coach John Groce says he hopes three of his younger players, Tracy Abrams, Nnanna Egwu and Myke Henry, can build on strong games against Nebraska last Saturday. Illinois enters the game with an 8-8 Big Ten record.

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — All-Missouri Valley Conference defensive tackle Shelby Harris has been kicked off Illinois State's football team. Coach Brock Spack announced Harris' dismissal yesterday, but he did not give details. Harris started all 13 games last fall for the Redbirds.
