(WTNH/AP) -- Connecticut high school football players made their college intentions known Wednesday by signing letters of intent to play for schools in the state and across the country.
UConn head coach Randy Edsall announced 20 players from 11 states are joining the Huskies. Among them is Tebucky Jones of New Britain High School. If the name sounds familiar it's because his father, also named Tebucky Jones, played in the NFL for the New England Patriots.
The Huskies got a commitment from Bryon Jones, a defensive back from St. Paul Catholic High School in Bristol. UConn also got a letter of intent from quarterback Scott McCummings of Natick, Mass.
Southern Connecticut signed 11 players to letters of intent, including four Connecticut prep players. They are Connor Bray, a safety from Suffield Academy, outside linebacker Dominick Diglio from Notre Dame-West Haven, Mustaqiim Plair, a cornerback from Wilbur Cross High in New Haven, and Peter Tiemann from Windsor High School.
Prep school Cheshire Academy had five seniors sign commitments to play at Division I schools. Morgan Donohue of Madison signed to play for Lafayette College. Travis Hurd of Branford is going to the University of Rhode Island, and Ian Wiggins signed to play for Tulane.
Cheshire Academy players Dominic Appiah of Somerset, New Jersey, and Sean Sylvia of Dartmouth, Massachusetts, signed with Boston College. One other Cheshire Academy player, Dino Mancinelli of Madison, signed for Division III Framingham State.
Boston College also signed linebacker Kevin Pierre-Louis from King & Low-Heywood Thomas School. In addition to the stress of picking a college, Pierre-Louis has had to worry about 30 or so family members who live in Haiti. Pierre-Louis said all are safe, but the building they live in fell down during last month's earthquake.
Penn St. coach Joe Paterno got four-star running back Silas Redd and highly-rated linebacker Khairi Fortt. Redd is from King & Low-Heywood Thomas School in Stamford. Fortt is from Stamford High School. Both have already graduated from high school and enrolled at Penn State.
