New Haven, Conn (WTNH) - In a couple of years Bria Hartley may have to make room at UConn for another Bria, Hillhouse star Bria Holmes.
The junior hasn't decided on a college yet, but she's already become one of the best high school basketball players in the state.
"What makes Bria Holmes a goof ball, kind of a teenage kid? (laughs) Her personality," senior Andreanna Thomas said.
She is the female version of Clark Kent, right down to the glasses. She's smart and mild-mannered, a little goofy too.
"She can be walk down the street and trip on the littlest crack, but on the court she'll break your ankles a.s.a.p," Thomas said.
The basketball court is Bria Holmes phone booth. When she sets foot on it, 'Superwoman' appears.
Just a junior, Holmes has had college recruiters drooling since her freshman year. Her high school coach, Catrina Hawley Stewart, says the 17-year-old works hard and is blessed with a long lean frame.
"Everything about her is a coaches dream. she can rebound. she can post. she can score off the dribble. she can penetrate, kick, she creates her own shots. Who wouldn't want her," Hawley Stewart said.
Rutgers, West Virginia, Duke, and St John's definately do.
"Everything is overwhelming. I just have to be patient and look around and see what school is best for me," Holmes said.
She may not have to look very far.
"UConn has always been a candidate. She likes UConn a lot and why not? Geno's a great coach," said Hawley Stewart.
When asked who she compares herself to as a basketball player, Holmes answered "Maya Moore."
Sounds like the Huskies may have the inside track.
