NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- The field for this years New Haven Open at Yale was announced Wednesday: four of the top ten tennis players in the world and 18 Olympians will be in the Elm City next month.
One of those Olympians is Varvara Lepchenko.
Originally from Uzbekistan she had to leave her country at 15 due to religious persecution. Last Fall she became a U.S. citizen and learned she will be playing for Team USA in two weeks.
The 26-year-old's career is on the rise.
She beat former Grand Slam champion Francesca Schiavone at the French Open last month and after starting the year ranked 126th in the world she is now ranked 44th.
To celebrate 15 years of women's tennis in New Haven Lepchenko took part in a great promotion Wednesday called 15 Love.
The tournament is selling $15 tickets for the next 15 days, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Smilow Cancer Hospital Breast Center in New Haven.
The promotion not only helps a great cause, but you will see some great tennis.
