New London (AP) - A controversial football coach has quit his job coaching the New
London High School baseball team amid allegations he violated rules
by allowing out-of-season practices.
The Day of New London reported that Jack Cochran resigned
this week.
The high school told the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic
Conference that Cochran opened the high school gym at least three
times so parents could lead batting drills with players. Rules
prohibit high school baseball practices before March 16.
Cochran, who is the school's football coach, was hired for
the baseball job last month.
Last year, the CIAC fined New London High School after two
eighth-graders participated in a spring high school football
practice.
Cochran was suspended for the 2006 season for punching a
fellow coach at a league weightlifting tournament.
