Sound Tigers hit a hot streak

Bridgeport, Conn. (WTNH) - If at first you don't succeed, try try again: Bridgeport's pro hockey team, the Sound Tigers, didn't succeed at first, but they are now.

"I hate losing," said Casey Cizika.

For a month losing is what the Sound Tigers did best.

"When, December," Brent Thompson asked laughing.

"It was a tough month," Sean Backman said with a laugh.

The Sound Tigers can laugh about it now, but at the time, Cizikas says the best way to describe their two win month was "nightmare."

Bridgeport closed December as the 29th best team in a 30 team league. However, since the start of the New Year no one in the AHL is playing better hockey.

And how good has Thompson's team been?

"Ya know what, I don't even want to know," Thompson said. "I know, but I'm not going to talk about it. We're just taking a step in the right direction, that's all."

The Sound Tigers have had just one loss in 18 games.

"Amazing," Cizikas said, "you never expect to go on a streak like this like we have."

Thompson says his team isn't doing much different, and that consistency and patience have been the key.

"Believe it's going to happen," Thompson said, "it's a reminder to guys if we play this way, practice the way you do, we're going to get the results you want."

"I think all the guys are buying into the same thing," David Ullstrom said, "we all want to win, it's contagious obviously."

Leadership and young talent: it's all falling into place for the almost worst to the almost first team.

"Keep in mind I don't think we've done anything yet," Thompson said. "You want to strive for perfection are you ever going to reach it? No, but that's how you get better. Once you're satisfied, I think your done."
