CROMWELL, Conn. (WTNH) -- The eyes of the golfing world will be on Cromwell this week. We're talking about the Travelers Championship.
Some of the top players in the game will be at the TPC River Highlands this week and Monday opening ceremonies were held.
The pros will be making their way to the area, many coming from San Francisco where the U.S. Open was just decided.
The actual tournament starts Thursday, but there's plenty of festivities leading up to that, including Monday's opening ceremonies.
Tournament organizers and state dignitaries made it out for the pomp and circumstance, the Silver Dolphins color guard, the Travelers choral group, and the Coast Guard Academy band.
And as the week progresses starting Tuesday, it'll become more about golf.
"This is really quite an event to be kicking off today and I do so deeply appreciate all of the corporations participating
in sponsorship of this event," said Governor Dannel Malloy. "Certainly happy to have the state of Connecticut now playing a role."
On Tuesday golfers will be getting in practice rounds and there will be a variety of exhibitions on the driving range.
