Cromwell (WTNH) - The early morning fans were streaming into the TPC River Highlands eager to watch the final round. Partaking of this tournament means a full day dealing with crowds, plenty of walking and of course, the elements.

"We stayed they sounded the horn but we still stayed and we stayed until the end," Erick Pellett, of East Hartford, said.

When severe weather hits a tournament on the PGA tour, like it did Friday and Saturday in Cromwell, an evacuation plans goes into effect. There are steps and measures taken immediately to ensure protection and safety.

"The tour monitors its events very, very carefully. If there is inclement weather, they sound at 30 minutes in advance to give them time to get to shelter," Nathan Grube, tournament director, said.

Some people are fortunate and they don't have to even leave their seats. However, that's just if it's raining. Things do change when the weather gets severe.

Many of the fans we spoke with were the hearty type. A little wet weather isn't about to ruin the day.

"We did this last year, we waited under a tent. We got soaking wet and we waited it out for 45 minutes. And we are glad we did," Cheryl Martinelli, of Harwinton, said. "We got to see Stuart Cink, he shook hands, my son was psyched. He got to meet Stuart Cink and Chris shook his hand and got his autograph."

So, while very few are fond of rain during the tournament, if you are ever expecting to be in the gallery, please prepare for any and all natural elements.
