HAMDEN, Conn. (WTNH) -- They just received the highest ranking in program history so the last thing the Quinnipiac hockey team wants is to lose their first game after being ranked 2nd in the country. UConn came in though and gave 'em a scare.
This would have been a bad loss for Quinnipiac.
Quinnipiac put a ton of shots on goal and finally had a break through in the first period.
Matt Peca one timed it in and the Bobcats had the 1-0 lead after 1 period.
UConn tied it up in the second period. After one of the few Bobcat mistakes Billy Lotta scored on a breakaway.
They went through much of the third period tied. Again, the Cats put a lot of shots on net and finally got one past Matt Grogan.
Connor Jones finished on the rebound with a little over 4 minutes left in game.
Bobcats won the game 2-1 extending their unbeaten streak to 17 games.
