Anaheim, CA (WTNH) - The Sweet Sixteen has become familiar territory for Jim Calhoun, but it's a whole new world for most of his young Huskies.
Yet, they know what they're in California to do. UConn knows it will have its hands full Thursday night with the Aztecs of San Diego State.
More than any husky team I've seen in a long time, they're just really appreciating this special ride.
"We had a great start right now. We have a great opportunity to do some big things with this program. We're just trying to take full advantage of this opportunity, " Kemba Walker said.
"The experience has definitely been great. From Maui, to winning the Big East, and now the Sweet Sixteen, I think we're just blessed with a great opportunity, and we're going to try to take advantage of it," Alex Oriakhi said.
"I think their journey has been great. There's no question about that. I think it does make a difference. I think the guys are enjoying what they're doing. It's a lot easier to play basketball. This is a reward for having a good season," UConn Coach Jim Calhoun said.
When asked if there's a chance they could hit the beach before this trip is over, Shabazz Napier said, "Unless we win on Saturday and we get a day off then I don't know, because we all know this is a business trip."
Both teams were very complimentary of each other, and they'll get a chance to meet Thursday evening just after 7:00pm.
