Storrs, Conn. (WTNH) - A contract hasn't been signed yet, but UConn basketball coach Jim Calhoun is making it clear that he wants to continue as coach at UConn.

There has been speculation that he might be retiring and his current contract expires in June. But he and the school appear to close to signing an extension.

Calhoun released this statement tonight, saying:

"I think it is important for me to put the recent questions about my future to rest and make it clear that I will be signing a new contract at UConn. I plan to continue working hard to get us back to where we expect to be as a basketball program and hope that this agreement will show people that I am committed to the future of UConn Basketball."

Uconn's Athletic Director, Jeffrey Hathaway, also released a statement saying he's glad Calhoun has decided to continue coaching and is excited to get a contract signed.

"I am excited that Jim has decided to continue coaching at the University of Connecticut and look forward to having a signed contract in the near future to make it official," said Jeffrey Hathaway.
