Calhoun to miss 3rd consecutive game

Storrs, Conn. (WTNH) - After a shocking announcement last week, the University of Connecticut says Coach Calhoun will miss his third consecutive game.

UConn announced last week that Coach Calhoun would take an indefinite leave of absence while he deals with an ongoing medical condition.

Here's the full statement from UConn:
University of Connecticut men's basketball coach Jim Calhoun will miss his third consecutive game Saturday at Syracuse as he continues to battle spinal stenosis, a painful lower back condition.

Calhoun, who was physically unable to coach games Saturday against Seton Hall and Monday at Louisville, is scheduled to meet with specialists over the next few days to determine the best course of treatment.

"I'm feeling better, but as of now, I wouldn't be able to coach," Calhoun said Tuesday. "I'm trying to get the best assessment in order to find the best solution."

Calhoun has been experiencing lower back pain since last summer, but controlled the discomfort through exercise and physical therapy.

The condition grew worse last week, however, and the Hall of Fame coach went on a medical leave of absence last Friday.

As the evaluation of his condition continues, he is expected to remain on leave until the situation is resolved.
