Storrs, Conn. (WTNH) - About 100 folks braved the rainy weather at Bradley International Airport to greet the UConn men's basketball team fresh off their national championship win.
The Huskies defeated Butler 53-41 Monday night in Houston.
Gov. Dannel Malloy was also on hand to congratulate the team. "They are so inspirational. Greatest coach you could ever have, greatest team. You are a great pride of your university," Malloy said.
"These guys have made me incredibly proud," Coach Jim Calhoun said before introducing his star player, Kemba Walker.
"Kemba, Kemba, Kemba," the crowd chanted as Walker took to the podium.
"I just want to say thanks, on behalf of the team. Hopefully we can give you another one next season," Walker said.
The festivities will continue at a drier venue: Gampel Pavilion on the UConn Storrs campus.
