(WTNH) - UConn had never had a player drafted in the first two rounds of the NFL draft until this year when they had four players drafted. In fact, the only school with more was the University of Southern California.

The first ever 1st round draft pick from UConn was Donald Brown -- last year's leading rusher in Division I college football taken with the 27th pick by the Indianapolis Colts. Brown has already been to his new team's mini camp as he gets ready to start his NFL career.

"I'm here to compete and just play however I can whether it's special teams or just get on the field contribute anyway possible," Brown said.

The Huskies had never had a first round pick. They hadn't had a 2nd round pick before either. But they had three of them this year.

Darius Butler was drafted by the New England Patriots with the 41st overall pick. The Florida native impressed the Patriots with his speed and athleticism and will get a chance to compete for playing time right away.

"You know now it's like finally official. Even after getting drafted it still didn't hit me but now it's finally hit me and it's fun," Brown said.

Soon after the Patriots chose Butler, the New York Giants drafted Lineman Will Beatty.

Beatty will get a chance to compete for playing time as the Giants used their valuable 2nd round pick -- 60th overall in the draft. And with it comes large expectations.

"I came here and they gave me a 4x sweater so I'm guessing that they want me to fill it out," Beatty said with a laugh.

The third Husky taken in the second round was Cody Brown, with the 63rd overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals.

Brown played defensive lineman in college; the Cardinals plan to play him at linebacker. It's by far the most successful draft in UConn history and has people around the country talking.
