HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- "They leavin' the Big East with a bad taste of UConn in their mouths," says UConn basketball player Ryan Boatright following tonight's huge win over Syracuse.
With Syracuse leaving the Big East, it's the last time they'll play as conference opponents, thus the Boatright quote.
Syracuse played a zone defense and the Huskies were able to get behind that zone. Tyler Olander was able to get behind it twice to start the game.
After Olander Dissapeared, others stepped up. Giffey played well tonight with 9 points and 5 rebounds.
Huskies with the ball right before the half. Shabazz Napier got rid of it and Boatright hit a three pointer at the buzzer to give the Huskies a 29-24 lead at the half.
Syracuse took the lead to start the second and that's when Boatright took over. His three was huge for UConn.
The one right after it, even bigger, gave the Huskies a 5 point lead.
He and Napier were the best players on the court tonight. Napier lobbed it to Boatright and this time he got behind the zone.
Then Napier tipped the pass, Boatright had it and it was smooth sailing to the basket to put the Huskies up by 5.
What sealed it late in the game was a pair of three pointers from Omar Calhoun as UConn held on to beat Syracuse in their last game as conference foes.
Final score 66-58.
