MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) -- Signing day is one of the most exciting days of the year for high school football seniors, who choose where they're going to go to college. The top quarterback in the state, Xavier's Tim Boyle was heading out of state up until a week ago but today he signed to stay closer to home.
Boyle was all set to go to Boston College but things changed, BC's head coach, the Eagle's offense and eventually Boyle's mind.
"When I committed to UConn it felt weird because I was so used to you know, the feeling of Boston College, Boston College," said Boyle.
Today Boyle signed with UConn.
"It definitely, definitely gave me the best opportunity to play so I'm happy with UConn and no more regrets," said Boyle.
It was a difficult decision for an 18 year old. He had his heart set on BC but with the help of his family, the Boyle's decided playing for a state university was the right choice.
"My family had to support me. They did a great job of leaving me alone when I needed to be alone and helping me when I needed to vent a little bit," said Boyle.
Even the ever changing face of the Big East conference didn't worry the Xavier senior.
"I know everyone is saying the Big East is falling apart and you know, I can agree with that to some degree but we're still playing great teams and you know, the competition is still going to be there," said Boyle.
The big armed righty would love to play right away but he understands the pecking order in Storrs. A unanimous All-State selection and 3 time state champion in Boyle, UConn may have its QB of the future.
"Football wise, you know, I have a good arm, I can move in the pocket but I think I have good leadership abilities that will carry me pretty far," said Boyle.
"He's a great kid. He's done well in the classroom, he's a leader. You know, he's got the height, the size, certainly has the arm. Good deal for them," said Sean Marinan, Xavier head coach.
