1 killed in 6-vehicle crash on I-84

MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- Police have identified the woman who was killed in the 6-vehicle chain reaction crash on I-84 Eastbound in Middlebury Tuesday night.

According to state police, Laurie Carvalho, 41, of Addleborough, Mass., died from her injuries after her car was rear-ended by a tractor trailer between Exits 16 and 17.

 I-84 Eastbound was shut down between Exits 16 and 17 after the accident.

Carvalho's car was the fifth car in a line of five cars that slowed down in the left lane when traffic became congested.  Police say truck driver, Juan Martinez, 23, was driving the six vehicle in the lane that hit Carvalho's car. This caused her to rear end the car in front of her. That chain reaction continued up to three other vehicles.

The others were taken to the hospital and treated for their non-life threatening injuries

Police say  the weather conditions were clear and the road was dry at the time of the accident.
