AVON, Conn. (AP) — Avon police are investigating one-car accident that injured three teenagers and left about 100 residents without power in freezing cold temperatures.

Officers say the teens' car slammed into a utility pole off Lovely Street shortly before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Three people ages 16 to 19 were hurt.

Police say the 16-year-old driver and a passenger were critically injured and flown to Hartford Hospital, while another passenger suffered less serious injuries and was brought by ambulance to the same hospital.

The teens' names and conditions haven't been released.

Police say Connecticut Light & Power has restored electricity to nearly all the affected residents.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
