VERNON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A teenage bicyclist is in critical condition after being struck by at least one vehicle in Vernon Monday afternoon.
The accident occurred on Union Street., Route 74, in the Rockville section of town.
Union Street, was shut down between Ward and Oak streets for nearly three hours following the crash.
Police said preliminary information indicates that the 13-year-old bicyclist was struck by both a westbound and an eastbound vehicle.
The boy was taken to Rockville General Hospital by ambulance, then flown to Hartford Hospital via Lifestar for life threatening injuries.
Police said the boy was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
The accident remains under investigation.
