MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (WTNH) -- A car struck a motorcycle and fled the scene Friday night and police say the motorcyclist is in serious condition.
Police arrived to the scene of a reported motor vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 63 and Woodside Avenue around 8:30 p.m. Friday.
According to police, a 1998 Toyota Camry made an unsafe turn and struck a motorcycle. The motorcycle flipped over and the operator was seriously injured.
Angelo T. Ligi, 60, was treated on scene before he was rushed to Waterbury Hospital. He is listed in serious condition.
Police say the Toyota Camry fled the scene. The vehicle turned up, unoccupied, at the Senior Housing Complex on Woodside Avenue.
Two K-9 teams were called in and the trail of the suspect was traced through a wooded area. Police eventually found the driver of the car, David Winckler, 52, in the bar at the nearby Maggie McFly's establishment.
Winckler was charged with 2nd degree assault, evading responsibility and an unsafe left turn. He is being held on a $25,000 bond.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
