Girl hospitalized after tractor accident

CLINTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A child was taken to the hospital after a tractor-related accident in Clinton Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred around 6 p.m., near the intersection of Commerce St. and Iroquois Dr.

News 8 was told some work is being done on a home on Commerce. A father was working on a tractor in the backyard, and that's when all of this happened.

The man's three-year-old daughter was riding on the back of the tractor with him. she apparently fell off the back and may have been run over by the tractor by accident.

Police are still trying to piece it all together.

"It's my understanding that the child was with her parent on the tractor, the parent was operating the tractor and something happened where she lost her balance, fell off the tractor onto the ground without his knowledge and the tractor may have run her over," said Sgt. Jeremiah Dunn, Clinton Police, "we're still trying to determine if in fact, she was run over by the tractor."

The girl was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital with serious injuries. We're told she did regain consciousness before being put in the ambulance, but she did appear to have a head injury.
