TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) -- A car accident involving two telephone poles on Sunday morning has left two people dead, police say.
Police responded to a serious car crash at 705 Migeon Avenue, directly in front of Cumberland Farms on Sunday morning.
The preliminary report indicates that Fletcher Cooper was driving eastbound on Migeon Avenue, when he struck a telephone pole. His car, a 2003 Chrysler Concorde, continued eastbound where it had a more serious impact with a second telephone pole.
That second impact caused Cooper and his wife Mary Cooper to become trapped inside of the vehicle. The Torrington Fire Department removed Mr. and Mrs. Cooper from the car and they were transported to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. They were pronounced dead a short time later.
The damage to the utility poles caused a power outage in the immediate area. Additionally, a portion of Migeon Avenue between North Elm Street and Norfolk Road will be closed until later Sunday night to clean up the damage.
Anyone who may have witnessed anything regarding this accident before, during or after the crash is asked to call Detective Kevin Tieman at 860-489-2063 or Detective Todd Fador at 860-489-2059.
