NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) -- A Norwich road was shut down after a fatal motor vehicle accident Tuesday.

Around 2:00 p.m. Norwich Police and the Occum Volunteer Fire Department responded to the area of 152 Baltic Road, also known as Route 97 for the report of a one car accident with serious injuries.

Upon arrival, officials located a 2004 Chevrolet, Tahoe with heavy damage, several feet off the east side of the road.

Police say the lone occupant, Keith A. Cassell, 42, of 40 School Street, Danielson, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The initial investigation indicates Cassell was driving north on Baltic Road when his car left the road.

The road was closed for several hours but was reopened as of 7:00 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information regarding this incident, please call the Norwich Police Dept. at (860) 886-5561.
